US firms are pleased with reform efforts during the two years of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s administration and are looking for opportunity to increase their business activities in Indonesia.

A number of leading US companies in various sectors such as resources, manufacturing and information and technology under the US-ASEAN Business Council, visited the State Palace on Thursday to meet with the President on his two-year anniversary.

Brian McFeeters, deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy, said apart from celebrating Jokowi’s two years in office, the business council had also expressed its commitment to increasing economic activity, for all foreign and Indonesian companies.

“It’s a general opportunity for companies to talk about what they’re doing in Indonesia, what they can do more, and to thank the President for the reform efforts,” Brian told reporters.

US-ASEAN Business Council president and CEO Alexander Feldman added that the focus of the council’s mission was to thank ministers in areas where US companies were operating and to look for opportunity, not only for American companies but also Indonesian companies, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“We’re talking about how we can help the President continue the reform efforts and stimulate the Indonesian economy,” he went on. (ags)
